I discovered open water shark diving while stalking Zac Efrons Instagram account. Zac was on the north shore all summer filming a movie. He posted a video of him riding a tiger shark off and I thought that looked pretty awesome. I did some research into the group he tagged in the post and saw that the group offers open water dives to the public. I showed my dad, and he thought it would be a good thing for the entire family to do. So we booked a tour and showed up to the harbor at 5am (we were told this was the most epic time to go).
I'm going to be honest, I'm not a shark person. In fact sharks were my greatest fear up to this point, but I also don't want to miss out on anything, so I did it. I was shaking when I got in the water, but the experience is actually very calming. There were dozens of sharks swimming under us and around us in a rhythmic way. Overcoming a fear as big as mine was is a life changing experience. I can't believe I had the opportunity to be so close to such beautiful and powerful predictors, and learn so much about them. I can't wait to do it again.
