I learned of the Palace Ruins from my housekeeper Mary. I mentioned to Mary that I was going to look for a waterfall and she suggested the Palace Ruins. The Palace Ruins are the remnants of King Kamehameha III’s summer home. Many people visit the beautiful stone structure, but are unaware of the glorious waterfall located nearby.

Mary drew me a map to get to the waterfall, as the location is not available online- it’s technically on private property and not welcome to sightseers. With Mary’s directions, my friends and I visited that ruins, then I led them through the forest till we reached a bamboo-tree covered muddy hill. The directions said to go down the hill, but we couldn’t see the bottom, and it looked like it led to the jungle, so we had to take a leap of faith. We slid down the hill and reached the most glorious waterfall I’ve ever seen. It has a beautiful swimming pool at it’s base, and rocks to sit on under it. It’s the waterfall from a fairytale book, and one of my favorite secret spots on the island.
